Teaching
Dr. Curley currently teaches a professional roles course to the undergraduate students and provides clinical supervision to psychiatric nurse practitioner students in their practicum. Dr. Curley’s teaching experience includes clinical and classroom instruction of psychiatric nursing for graduate and undergraduate students within the United States and Canada, including coordinating and advising psychiatric nurse practitioner students.
Research
Dr. Curley’s research interests include the psychiatric and behavioral disorders of pregnancy, specifically abortion and adolescent pregnancy, PTSD and stress disorders among women, as well as the development of population-focused behavioral interventions targeted toward these disorders. Dr. Curley recently conducted an international study examining the psychological responses to abortion among university students. In addition, she has developed a behavioral intervention for students who experience psychological distress after abortion and seek treatment. The intervention will be pilot-tested at several university student health services.
Area of expertise
Dr. Curley has practiced as an advanced practice psychiatric nurse with prescriptive authority in Vermont and Massachusetts for over fifteen years. Her practice specialty includes women’s and maternal mental health. She has maintained certification as an Adult Psychiatric Mental Health Clinical Specialist with the American Nurses Credentialing Center since 1994. She is an active member of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society, the American Psychiatric Nurses Association, and board member of the Center for Reproductive Loss in Montreal. Dr. Curley has served as a member of the National Health Services Corp to provide psychiatric care to underserved populations in rural areas.
Education
Dr. Curley completed her BSN at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, MA, her MS in Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing at Boston College, and a Post Graduate Fellowship in Behavioral Healthcare with the Harvard Community Health Plan. She then completed a Summer Institute in Biostatistics at the Harvard School of Public Health, and her PhD at McGill University in Montreal. Currently, Dr. Curley is completing a Post MS Certificate as a Family Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner at Rutgers University.
