Guidelines for the University Scholars Program

What is it?

The University Scholars Program introduces undergraduate students at the University of Florida to the exciting world of academic research. In the program, students work one-on-one with UF faculty on selected research projects. Through this initiative, students will take away an understanding of and appreciation for the scholarly method. The University Scholars Program serves as an exceptional capstone to the academic careers of UF students.

Who is eligible?

Students who are not graduating before May 2025 with a minimum GPA of 3.0 are invited to apply. The College of Nursing will select up to three students to work with faculty members on their research.

What are the program details?

  • During Summer A/C 2024, scholars must register for at least 1 credit of independent study to conduct their research. They will be mentored by a CON faculty member.
  • During Fall 2024, scholars take 1 credit of independent study to write up their research project and submit it for publication or presentation.
  • Scholars are required to present and submit for publication. Students will present their research at the annual Undergraduate Research Symposium during Spring semester 2025 and are expected to publish their work in the Journal of Undergraduate Research. Students are also encouraged to present and publish in their respective fields, if possible.
  • Each University Scholar receives a stipend of $1,750.

  • Review the list of participating faculty members.
  • Talk with the faculty member you are interested in working with and request a letter of support to accompany your application.
  • Submit the application to Amanda Goldsmith (HPNP Room 2201, Office for Research Support).
  • Deadline for College of Nursing students is February 5, 2024.
