ARE COMMENCEMENT AND PINNING DIFFERENT?

  • YES, for traditional and accelerated BSN students, these are two distinct ceremonies held on commencement weekend, and we encourage these graduates to attend both.
    • The PINNING CEREMONY is hosted by the UF College of Nursing and is only for the BSN (traditional in spring and accelerated in summer) grads receiving their nursing pins for the first time. Regalia/cords/sashes are NOT worn, and degree is NOT conferred at pinning.
      • Please note – This ceremony always includes individual recognition of the grad (grad names are called and each grad crosses the stage).
    • The COMMENCEMENT CEREMONY for Bachelor’s, Master’s and Specialists is hosted by the University of Florida and is for all undergraduate and non-doctoral level degrees at UF. Regalia is worn and degree is conferred.
      • Please note – This ceremony typically does not include individual recognition of graduates during the Spring, but does in the Summer and Fall.
      • For spring 2020 grads, the rescheduled commencement on Aug. 2 is unique, as it will include individual recognition, but will not include conferring of degree (since they will have already been mailed over the summer).
  • Do I have to attend either ceremony?
    • We encourage Nursing graduates to participate in both the Commencement and Pinning Ceremonies. We are very proud of the accomplishments of our graduates and look forward to celebrating this milestone with them. However, attendance is not required for either ceremony.

WHAT ABOUT DNP, PHD, RN-BSN AND CERTIFICATE GRADS ?

  • DNP and PhD grads participate only in the Doctoral Commencement Ceremony, hosted by the University. Click here for details.
  • RN-BSN and Certificate grads participate only in the Commencement Ceremony (non-doctoral), hosted by the University. Click here for details.

Congratulations Gator Nursing SPRING 2020 Grads!!

PINNING CELEBRATION

The College of Nursing is excited to host a Virtual Pinning Celebration for Spring 2020 traditional BSN grads on May 12th at 2:00pm. This date is very special to the nursing profession, as it is the last day of National Nurses Week and is the 200th birthday of Florence Nightingale. There will be an opportunity, during the individual recognition portion of the video for grads to don their official College of Nursing pins (may also coordinate for someone special to pin them). The link to the celebration video will be posted above this messeage on this page, along with a Pinning Message from President Fuchs, and will remain available on this page through the summer.
