Their work, which is supported by the National Institute on Aging, a division of the National Institutes of Health, will help the team continue to capture and integrate nursing data into multidisciplinary data repositories.

With the help of their AdventHealth clinical partners, Patricia Robinson and Jeanette Green, the College of Nursing researchers plan to expand the study’s pipeline for the extraction, standardization, and integration of nursing care plan data from the hospitals part of the AdventHealth Central Florida Division: South into the OneFlorida+ Clinical Research Network data trust. Once complete, Macieira intends to create hospital readmission models for older adults using data available in the trust, as well as collected from nursing care plans, to aid patient care decision making.”

“The integration of these datasets is an amazing accomplishment,” Macieira said. “Through including nursing care plan data gathered by bedside caregivers, we hope to empower other health systems across the country to do the same to improve nursing practices and outcomes for diverse patient populations.”
