Two UF College of Nursing professors showcased their knowledge of artificial intelligence and informatics at a prestigious international conference, which explored innovations and management strategies for the ongoing technology-driven transformation in nursing.
Assistant Professor Tamara Macieira, PhD, RN, and Associate Professor Lisiane Pruinelli, PhD, MS, RN, FAMIA, traveled to São Paulo, Brazil, to present at the VI International Conference on Research and Management of Human Resources in Nursing and Health. The three-day conference brought together academic, industry, and government leaders focused on the future of nursing and health care.
Macieira delivered the opening keynote: “EHR as a Tool for Excellence: Improving Nursing Practice and Management through Data-Driven Insights.”
In her keynote, Macieira discussed how Electronic Health Records have evolved from basic data management systems to rich sources of information that, with the power of AI and machine learning, can drive clinical outcomes analysis and risk model development.

Meanwhile, Pruinelli contributed to a discussion on “Educational Experiences in Digital Health and Nursing” and participated in a panel on “Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare and Nursing Management.”
“There were many discussions on how to implement technologies to support nursing and health care,” Pruinelli said. “My presentations focused on building informatics-related curricula for leadership roles that can help cultivate those skills towards nursing decision-making driven by data”
She also emphasized that competencies for AI and informatics roles must be tailored for nurses.
“It was a diverse mix of participants and expertise,” Pruinelli said. “There was a great exchange of ideas.”
