Certified Nurses Strengthen Patient Care and Practice

On March 19, we celebrate Certified Nurses Day, recognizing all nurses who have demonstrated advanced knowledge, clinical expertise and commitment to high standards of care through earning and maintaining national board certification in their nursing specialty.

At the University of Florida College of Nursing, that commitment is woven into the very fabric of who we are.  College of Nursing faculty collectively hold more than 50 professional certifications spanning acute care, pediatrics, family health, leadership, education and more, reflecting a depth of expertise that directly strengthens both patient care and the student learning experience.

These credentials are far more than letters after a name — they represent rigorous national standards, validated, real-world expertise in specific areas of practice and a personal commitment to continuous professional growth. For students, that translates into learning from clinicians, scholars and educators who actively maintain and advance their knowledge, ensuring the education they receive is grounded in real-world practice and emerging evidence.

Certified faculty bring relevance and authenticity into the classroom. Their frontline experience bridges the gap between theory and practice, ensuring students build the confidence and competence required to navigate the complexity of today’s health care environment.

As we honor certified nurses and the expertise they bring to patient care and nursing education, this moment carries even deeper meaning in a landmark year for the University of Florida College of Nursing. As the college celebrates its 70th anniversary, we reflect not only on the legacy of excellence built over seven decades but also on the certified faculty, clinicians and alumni who have shaped that history and continue to advance it today. This anniversary year underscores how certified nurses embody the college’s long‑standing commitment to Care, Lead, Inspire, Boldly, while lighting the way forward for the next generation of Gator Nurses.
