The University of Florida College of Nursing continues its momentum, ranked No. 1 in Florida for the Doctor of Nursing Practice Adult/Gerontology Acute Care specialty and 18th nationally, according to the latest U.S. News & World Report Best Doctor of Nursing Practice rankings.

Overall, the college’s DNP program jumped 18 spots to No. 29 in the nation.

The leap in standing from last year reflects the program’s continued growth, strategic investment and increasing national visibility as a leader in advanced nursing education.

“This recognition speaks to the strength of our academic community and our commitment to preparing practice-ready leaders,” said Dean Shakira Henderson, PhD, DNP, MS, MPH, MBA, IBCLC, RNC-NIC, system chief nurse executive for UF Health. “Our DNP graduates are equipped to lead change, drive innovation and deliver high-quality care in a rapidly evolving health care landscape.”

Designed for nurses seeking to lead at the highest levels of practice, the DNP program emphasizes clinical excellence, systems leadership and evidence-based innovation. Its rise in the rankings underscores the college’s focus on student success, expert faculty and meaningful clinical partnerships that translate directly to real-world impact.

The recognition comes during a milestone year for the college. In 2026, the University of Florida College of Nursing celebrates 70 years of advancing education, research and patient care. Additional anniversaries include 10 years of the Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing program and the academic nursing partnership at UF Health Jacksonville, as well as 25 years of service by UF Health Archer Family Health Care, a nurse-led clinic providing essential care to rural and underserved communities.

Together, these milestones highlight a legacy of innovation and a sustained commitment to improving health outcomes across Florida and beyond.

As part of the University of Florida Health Science Center, the College of Nursing continues to build on the legacy of expanding its reach, strengthening its programs and preparing the next generation of nurse leaders to shape the future of health care.
