Summer 2022

Dear Gator Nurses,

On behalf of  theUF Student Nursing Association, and the rest of the Gator Nursing student body, I’d like to give a big congratulations to the newly accepted Gator Nurses!

I’m sure you all are feeling thrilled, and possibly somewhat nervous, about the journey ahead. This is the start of a very big chapter in your lives and I am excited for each of you to have this opportunity. Not only will nursing school educate you in health care, but in being an advocate for your patients, and a leader as well.

Congrats and best wishes,

-Rachel Malko

UFSNA Vice President

Gator Nurses, Keep in Touch!

One of the pleasures of nursing school is the friendships that develop during it. This summer, Gator Nurses have been keeping in touch with one another. Students have gone to visit each other in their home towns and have even gone on trips with each other! Submit your summer adventure to Kyle Chambers for a chance to have it appear in the upcoming HeartBeat Magazine!

Nurses Leading Change Recap

Nurses Leading Change held its first General Body Meeting for the summer semester last month, dedicated to Nurses Leading Change’s recognition of Juneteenth. This meeting provided the opportunity for nursing students and faculty to expand their knowledge on Juneteenth.

Our current president, Kylie Stojak delivered a presentation, that was prepared by our faculty advisor, Anne Dillard. All of the information from this presentation is credited to Shennette Garrett-Scott, associate professor of history and African American Studies at the University of Mississippi and the author of the article titled, "When Peace Come." This presentation provided a historical timeline of the events that led up to the creation and recognition of Juneteenth. Nurses Leading Change hopes that this GBM conveyed the importance of this national holiday and educated our audience on the topic.

We have also welcomed a new Executive Board and look forward to transitioning them into their leadership roles! Our list of board members can be found on the College of Nursing website.
