December 2021

Dear Gator Nurses,

Nurses Leading Change is extremely pleased with our progress toward achieving our mission to empower individuals of marginalized communities to speak and be heard. Through numerous general body meetings and community driven projects, we are confident that we have and will continue to provide a platform for important educational topics in creating a future force of nurses dedicated to continuing change.

This semester, NLC has held GBMs on numerous diverse topics ranging from mental health to health disparities. NLC has had the honor of having Dr. Zulma Santiago-Zayas,  Barbara Bad Elk and the College of Nursing’s Dr. Star Booker as guest speakers for our general body meetings. These nurse leaders have allowed NLC to provide our members with the resources and information they need to promote change in the nursing profession.

Our organization has also completed community driven projects through different committees. The Education Committee completed a donation drive which was dedicated to gathering necessities and menstrual products for the homeless population in the Gainesville community. We are excited with the results of this drive and the donation we will contribute to the homeless population. Other committees such as the Outreach, Platform, Freedom Writers and Pay it Forward Committee have worked hard this semester to provide more availability through social media, fundraising events, as well as through preparing NLC for a more packed and exciting schedule next semester.

We thank our executive board for the continued work to better this organization and ensure that we uphold our mission. We look forward to another semester of change, education and projects! Have a great winter break everyone!

New Year's Resolutions

In the spirit of the holiday, we asked some Gator Nurses about their plans for the New Year! Here’s what they had to say about ringing in 2022:

I am looking forward to deepening my knowledge and expanding my intellectual horizons in 2022. I am excited to gain experience in my nursing career and become more confident in myself. However, I am excited to make the best of life and cherish every moment with those I love!

-Vioudny Senat, BSN 2022

For the year 2022, some of my New Year’s resolutions are to improve my artistic skills and explore more of my creative side. I am looking forward to all the great opportunities and experiences in life next year. I hope to gain more wisdom and build up my courage and confidence!
