CELEBRATING A GATOR NURSING GREAT

About Professor David Derrico

For more than 30 years, Professor David Derrico has energetically and passionately educated thousands of Gator Nurses. As a clinical assistant professor, Derrico’s experience at the University of Florida College of Nursing has been vast — classroom lecturer for pathophysiology, clinical instructor at the hospital bedside and health assessment educator in the skills lab. He has received numerous teaching awards throughout the years, including being named Teacher of the Year every year from 2009-2015 and receiving the college’s inaugural DAISY Award for Outstanding and Compassionate Clinical Teaching in 2020.

Generations of former students still recite his lessons in their own clinical practice and credit their success to his instruction. We are grateful for the contributions Professor Derrico has made to the College of Nursing and the impact his teaching and service have had on students and patients throughout the years.
