PhD Student Profile
We had the opportunity to speak with third-year PhD student Jennifer Pruitt about a day-in-the life as a Gator Nurse scientist! Her research interests involve examining glucose gel use in at-risk newborns and neonatal hypoglycemia.
Why did you choose the UF College of Nursing?
I attended the University of Florida for my undergraduate degree and then returned to complete my master's, so the University of Florida has always been my home. I am so blessed to a part of the PhD program!
A fun fact about you?
I have two young boys who love to play travel baseball and I enjoy watching them play (when I have the free time!)
Could you describe a “day in the life” of a PhD student?
Reading and writing! Sometimes I can spend hours just doing “quick” literature reviews. Sometimes, I anticipate just taking quick glances at abstracts, but then I see something interesting and spend hours going through the different articles I find related to the topic. The other half of my day consists of writing about what I just read. It’s an endless cycle, but I feel like every day I see or read about something new or something that I never thought about before. It’s fun to see where the new information takes me!
