Role Description:

Brian’s duties fall under three primary areas: course development, course production and course support. This includes working with faculty and staff through the implementation of course design, educational activities development, accessibility compliance, audio/video course production, teaching and learning tool training, as well as assistance with learning management system updates and technological issues.

Background:

While working at Florida State University, Brian began his journey as a support specialist for the Blackboard and Canvas Learning Management systems in the Office of Distance Learning. After working part-time for a university-wide group for one year, supporting thousands of faculty and students, and producing valuable LMS training material, he transitioned into a full-time position as an instructional technologist in the College of Business where he worked for two years. In this role, he provided educational technology support to over 120 faculty members and over 50 doctoral students solving technical issues with the Canvas Learning Management System; designing ADA compliant course sites (face-to-face, online, and hybrid); and training these individuals on how to utilize lecture capture technology, the One Button Studio, the Online Learning Studio, and other tools to enhance student learning.

Brian also has experience in photography and videography and has been exploring the use of motion graphics and animations in the effort to create a more engaged learning experience for students. Additional technology utilized includes the TriCaster production system, green screens, and others. In his previous role, Brian managed the full creation, production, and storage of almost all promotional and academic multi-media content produced for FSU’s College of Business and enjoys researching new and innovative technologies.

Fun Facts:

Brian is a certified expert with the World Tea Academy and a skilled home barista with a professional coffee bar. Brian was also partially deaf during childhood and now has above-average hearing.
