About Cynthia (Cindi) Figueroa

TEACHING

Before coming to the University of Florida, Dr. Figueroa (formerly Figueroa-Haas) practiced in Miami-Dade, Florida as an Adult Care Nurse Practitioner specializing in Cardio/Pulmonary issues, Intensive Care expert (CCRN Certified), Family & Internal Medicine, Dental/Oral Surgery IV sedation Director including minor facial & neck surgical procedures, Cosmetic Surgical Nurse Practitioner (intra & post operative) including administration of Facial Botox, O.R. Manager, Pediatrics, IV Expert/PICC Certified and Home Health Director of Nurses/V.P.

As an Adult Health Nurse Practitioner, she is Nationally Board Certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). She previously served as the Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner Track Coordinator for the College of Nursing (CON) at the University of Florida. Additionally, she advises and teaches the Family Nurse Practitioner & Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner Track Doctoral of Nursing Practice (DNP) students. She teaches both on-line & face to face didactic graduate nurse practitioner associated courses and Doctoral Nursing Practice students. Dr Figueroa is also on the front lines with all levels of undergraduate nursing students at diverse hospital settings.

RESEARCH

Dr. Figueroa’s research interest is namely centered on psychological factors associated with women’s health. Recently she published a study referencing issues related to misuse & wastage of blood products in hospital settings. Additional research interest are focused on the psychological and social factors that affect specific illnesses or client populations such as clients who seek elective cosmetic surgery, post-menopausal women & sexuality issues related to women’s health.

SERVICE

Dr. Figueroa is involved in a number of nursing organizations which include the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP), National League for Nursing (NLN), Florida Nurse Practitioner Network (FNPN) and Lambda Chi Honor Society. She is also a Board Member and actively involved in the North Central Florida Advance Practice Nurses, Inc. Association and is appointed as the Liaison for the University of Florida, College of Nursing. She created a support group for families of those whose family members have been deployed or whose lives were sacrificed due to their military efforts.

Accomplishments

Has honors with the USA National Academy, Achievement Award; was awarded the Phi Kappa Phi, Sigma Theta Tau Honor Awards and graduated with a Summa Cum Laude Status.

Research Profile

Dr. Figueroa’s research interest is namely centered on psychological factors associated with women’s health. Other research interest are focused on the psychological and social factors that affect specific illnesses or client populations such as clients who seek elective cosmetic surgery, post-menopausal women & sexuality issues related to women’s health. Currently Dr. Figueroa is pursuing research associated with veteran Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder & the effects on military families.

Dr. Figueroa’s areas of expertise is related to advanced adult health care, namely issues associated with acute and chronic illnesses, woman’s health promotion and maintenance, cosmetic surgery, home health care, nurse practitioner related dental/medical issues and administration of IV sedation.
