About Denise M Schentrup

Dr. Denise Schentrup is a Clinical Associate Professor and Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs at the University of Florida College of Nursing with more than three decades of experience as an advanced practice nurse, educator, and clinical leader. Since beginning a nursing career as a registered nurse in 1993 and becoming an advanced practice registered nurse in 1996, Dr. Schentrup has dedicated clinical practice almost exclusively to rural and underserved communities, focusing on expanding access to high-quality, patient-centered care through innovative practice models and interprofessional collaboration. In addition to academic and clinical leadership, Dr. Schentrup is actively involved in professional service at the national, state, and local levels, including leadership with the National Association of Rural Health Clinics, where contributions support rural healthcare policy, advocacy, and education.

TEACHING Dr. Schentrup has taught extensively within the Doctor of Nursing Practice program across classroom, clinical, and online environments. Through mentoring and committee leadership, Dr. Schentrup has guided numerous DNP students in projects addressing preventive care, chronic disease management, behavioral health integration, rural health initiatives, and healthcare system improvement, helping prepare the next generation of nurse leaders and practice-ready clinicians.

RESEARCH Dr. Schentrup’s scholarly contributions include peer-reviewed publications, book chapters, and national guidelines focused on rural health, interprofessional practice, and clinical decision support. As a principal investigator and co-investigator on funded grants, Dr. Schentrup has led initiatives addressing vaccine hesitancy, fall prevention, health promotion, and innovative care delivery models that improve outcomes in primary care settings.

CLINICAL PRACTICE Dr. Schentrup oversees faculty practice operations, manages clinical partnerships and contracts, and directs the Archer Family Health Care clinic, a nurse-led practice serving both the community and future healthcare providers. Dr. Schentrup continues to hold a clinical practice at Archer Family Health Care as a Family Nurse Practitioner and precepts graduate students. Leadership efforts have centered on developing sustainable clinical models that integrate education, practice, research, and quality improvement to enhance patient outcomes. Dr. Schentrup was recognized as a Fellow of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners.
