Student Awards
The UF College of Nursing is proud to recognize students who have demonstrated commitment and excellence in the values of the nursing profession through select awards.

Traditional BSN, Accelerated BSN, DNP and PhD nursing students are encouraged to apply for awards for which they qualify. Students must complete the Student Award Application by each award’s respective deadline and submit all required documentation.

Student Awards
Excellence in Community Service Award
The Excellence in Community Service Award recognizes a student who has performed an exceptional act of service to their community and meets the below criteria:
- Be a graduating BSN student who earned a minimum grade of “B” in NUR 3638 or a graduating graduate student
- Submit the following with your award application:
- One faculty recommendation letter
- A description of community service activities, including dates, and sponsoring agency or supervising faculty
- A narrative statement (250 words or less) describing his/her leadership role in at least two community service activities
One BSN awardee will be honored at the UF College of Nursing pinning ceremony. Graduate awardees will be honored at the College of Nursing Research Summit.
Excellence in Research Award
The Excellence in Research Award is presented to a student who demonstrates excellence in original research and meets the below criteria:
- Be a graduating BSN student who earned a minimum grade of “B” in NUR 3169 or a graduating graduate student
- Submit the following with your award application:
- One faculty recommendation letter by an active researcher
- A description of research activities, including dates, and sponsoring agency or supervising faculty
- A narrative statement (250 words or less) describing his/her research focus, research dissemination, research direction and goals
One BSN awardee will be honored at the UF College of Nursing pinning ceremony. Graduate awardees will be honored at the College of Nursing Research Summit.
UF College of Nursing Award for Excellence in Nursing Care
The UF College of Nursing Award for Excellence in Nursing Care is awarded to a student who has demonstrated their aptitude for providing high-quality care and meets the below criteria:
- Be a graduating BSN student
- Submit the following with your award application:
- A narrative statement (250 words or less) describing how his/her application demonstrates the characteristics of “care.”
- A faculty recommendation letter endorsing “care” characteristics.
One awardee will be honored at the UF College of Nursing pinning ceremony.
UF College of Nursing Leadership Award
The UF College of Nursing Leadership Award is presented to students who lead in the transformation of health care and meet the below criteria:
- Be a graduating BSN student
- Submit the following with your award application:
- A narrative statement (250 words or less) describing how his/her application demonstrates the characteristics of leadership.
- A faculty recommendation letter endorsing leadership characteristics.
One awardee will be honored at the UF College of Nursing pinning ceremony.
UF College of Nursing Inspire Award
The UF College of Nursing Inspire Award honors students who encourage others to greater efforts or enthusiasm and meet the below criteria:
- Be a graduating BSN student
- Submit the following with your award application:
- Narrative statement (250 words or less) describing how his/her application demonstrates the characteristics of “inspire.”
- A faculty letter endorsing “inspire characteristics.
One awardee will be honored at the UF College of Nursing pinning ceremony.
UF College of Nursing Diversity Award
The UF College of Nursing Diversity Award honors students to are committed to promoting diversity and inclusion and meet the below criteria:
- Be a graduating BSN student
- Submit the following with your award application:
- A narrative statement (250 words or less) describing your contribution to diversity at the college or university level.
- A faculty recommendation letter endorsing your contribution to diversity efforts.
One awardee will be honored at the UF College of Nursing pinning ceremony.
Exemplary RN to BSN Student Award
The Exemplary RN to BSN Student Award recognizes an exceptional RN to BSN senior who meets the below criteria:
- Be an RN to BSN student in the final semester of coursework
- Submit the following with your award application:
- A narrative statement (250 words or less) describing how you have exemplified caring, provided leadership, and/or inspired others in the delivery of client care and/or the nursing student role during the College of Nursing RN to BSN program.
- A written nomination letter of support from a College of Nursing faculty member who has worked with you during your RN to BSN program.
One awardee will be honored at the UF College of Nursing pinning ceremony.
