Pinning and Commencement Events

Friday, August 9, 2024, at 9:00 a.m. in the University Auditorium. Traditional ceremony recognizing new nurses to the nursing profession and is only for Nursing undergraduates and specific to Nursing, where students are individually recognized with their names called as they cross the stage to be pinned by a member of the Alumni Council, who host the event. This is NOT the same as the Commencement (graduation) Ceremony, which is managed by UF’s Director of Commencements. We encourage Nursing undergraduates to attend both the Pinning Ceremony and the Commencement (aka – Graduation) Ceremony. Most of our graduates participated in the White Coat Ceremony as incoming nursing students, which celebrates health care students as they move from preclinical study into the clinical area. The Pinning Ceremony is to again celebrate the cohort as they prepare for another milestone- entering the nursing profession.

Doors open at 8:00 a.m.; students report to Friends of Music Room by 8:15 a.m.; all others seated in theatre by 8:45 a.m.; processional at 9:00 a.m.; tickets are REQUIRED for guests for this ceremony; students typically wear their white coats as regalia is not appropriate for this ceremony.

Again – this traditional ceremony recognizes new professional nurses, and is for BSN summer graduating seniors (Accelerated BSN & RN to BSN). Doctoral Commencement Ceremony
Friday, August 9, 2024, 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.; processional at 1:40 p.m.; Stephen C. O’Connell Center; Gate 4 will open for candidates and escorts at 12:30 p.m.; Gate 1 will open for guests at 12:30 p.m.; regalia is appropriate and required for this ceremony

Bachelor’s Commencement Ceremony (aka – Graduation Ceremony)
Friday, August 9, 2024, 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.; Stephen C. O’Connell Center; processional at 6:30 p.m.; Check-In begins at 5:30 p.m. at Gate 4; guest admission begins at 5:30 p.m.; Gates 1 & 3 will open for guests at 5:30 p.m.; no tickets required for this ceremony; regalia is appropriate and required for this ceremony.

This is the GRADUATION ceremony where undergraduate degrees are conferred upon the graduates. The summer ceremony includes conferring of degrees and individual recognition. This is NOT the same as the Pinning Ceremony, which is a ceremony for the nursing profession and not a graduation. Nursing undergraduates are encouraged to attend both the Commencement (aka – Graduation) Ceremony and Pinning Ceremony.
