The College of Nursing is seeking self-directed, dedicated students who would like to enhance their clinical portfolio through engaging with patients and staff an additional 84 hours of clinical time on a specified unit at UF Health Shands Hospital. These additional clinical hours will be completed during the final semester of the CON nursing program (CLIC 8) for which students are enrolled.

Thank you for your interest in the University of Florida, College of Nursing (CON) Honors Clinical. This is an intensive clinical experience that will provide participants with enhanced clinical hours to gain in-depth experience on a designated unit within the University of Florida Shands Health System. The focus of this course is on the personalized nursing care of individuals and families in inpatient care settings. Emphasis is on direct patient care, nursing leadership, and advocacy to provide a focused experience in inpatient care settings for outstanding students interested in pursuing these opportunities post-graduation.

These additional clinical hours will be completed during the final semester of the CON nursing program (CLIC 8) for which students are enrolled.

Applicants should not plan to concurrently enroll in the CON Honors Program. All applicants must demonstrate outstanding performance in the previous semester of upper-level nursing courses (CLIC 7) and be prepared for the work required to maintain excellence during the final semester (CLIC 8) of the program for which they are enrolled. To be considered for the CON Honors Clinical you must complete and submit the following materials to the Office of Academic Affairs by the due dates indicated below.

All candidates will be notified of their acceptance by December 22, 2023.


Application Materials

  1. Complete the student application at the link below including the following requirements (DUE 11/21/2023):
    • Personal statement explaining why you are an excellent candidate for this unique opportunity. (Maximum 200 words)
    • List three learning objectives or goals for this clinical experience and description of how this experience will help you achieve your professional goals. (Maximum 200 Words)
    • Clinical Evaluation Tool from CLIC 7 mid-semester.
    • (OPTIONAL) Letter of character which can be from a variety of individuals including (but not limited to) a nurse on a unit to which you have been assigned (including clinical leader or nurse manager), volunteer coordinator, coach, employer, supervisor, etc. (200 word limit)
  2. Completion of the following recommendation forms. (A link will be emailed to the candidate for solicitation of the two required forms.)
    • One recommendation from CLIC 7 clinical instructor (form linked below) (DUE 11/21/2023)
    • One recommendation from CLIC 7 course instructor (form linked below) (DUE 11/21/2023)
  3. Interview with a unit representative via Zoom should take place by 12/06/2023. Students will be contacted by the unit representative to schedule meeting.
