About the Florida Commitment Scholarship

The Florida Commitment Scholarship is a combination of funds from the Linking Industry to Nursing Education (LINE) Fund, established in 2022 by the Florida Legislature, and funds from private donors. This scholarship is a groundbreaking initiative to alleviate the state’s nursing shortage and is tailored for students who already hold a bachelor’s degree or higher in another field and are not typically eligible for traditional financial assistance. UF Health provides matching funds to ensure strong financial and professional support for students in the ABSN program.

Work Commitment

During the ABSN program, Florida Commitment Scholars must work at least 16 hours monthly as a UF Health patient care assistant. Upon graduation, Florida Commitment Scholars are committed to working as a registered nurse at UF Health for 24 months at one of the following UF Health facilities.

What is the selection process for this scholarship?

All Florida residents are eligible to apply for this scholarship. Applicants must apply and participate in an interview with UF Health and College of Nursing faculty and staff as part of the selection process.

What is a Patient Care Assistant?

A Patient Care Assistant (PCA) supports nurses by assisting with daily patient care activities such as vital signs, hygiene, mobility, and communication. Serving as a Patient Care Assistant during the program provides valuable clinical exposure, fosters professional growth, and strengthens collaboration within the healthcare team.

How does the work commitment work?

While enrolled in the ABSN program, Florida Commitment Scholars must work at least 16 hours monthly as Patient Care Assistants (PCAs) at UF Health, starting after their first semester. After graduation and licensure, they will work full-time as Registered Nurses (RNs) at UF Health for 24 months. Students will sign a contract outlining this 36-month total commitment before receiving the scholarship.

When can I apply?

The scholarships are available for students starting in May. Students will receive additional information regarding the application process once they are admitted into the Accelerated BSN program.
