Minimum computer requirements for all Nursing Students
Undergraduate
Bachelor of Science in Nursing
Computer requirements for Traditional BSN, Accelerated BSN and RN to BSN students.

Minimum Laptop Requirements for all College of Nursing Programs
- You are required to have a laptop running either Mac OS or Windows 10.
- Required to have a working webcam and microphone.
- Access to high speed internet per the FCC definition: FCC high speed definition.
- High speed internet access of at least 25 Mbps DOWN and 3 Mbps UP.
- Test your internet speed HERE.
- Students are strongly encouraged to have a smartphone for 2FA (multi factor authentication).
- Students are eligible for free current Microsoft Office software packages.
Laptop Security Requirements
- Student’s laptops must be encrypted. Resources are available HERE.
- External hard drives or USB drives (Flash Thumb drives) must be encrypted if using for College of Nursing course materials. We strongly encourage the cloud storage solutions mentioned above in lieu of the use of portable media.
- Antivirus requirements
- Windows: Microsoft Defender Antivirus is built-in to Windows and is free.
- Mac: Avast or Sophos offer free third party solutions
- Students are strongly encouraged to use cloud storage for course work and collaboration, there are multiple cloud storage options available for free HERE.
- Zoom UF single sign on instructions.
- UF’s Virtual Private Network (VPN) is required for accessing resources from off campus.

- Eduroam wireless at UF. Eduroam is used at institutions worldwide making it easier for staff and students to collaborate across academic institutions for conferences and programs.

- All students must have or purchase a Privacy Filter for any computer that will be used for exam testing and in-class quizzes.

- UF myIRB – UF VPN connection is required to use myIRB.
- Virtual Desktop environment – Windows 10 virtual environment used for data collection with Office 2019 & SPSS 27.
