The University of Florida College of Nursing is the first nursing college in the nation to partner with Nurses United Against Human Trafficking (NUAHT) to offer a specialized certificate in anti-human trafficking.
This groundbreaking program equips health care professionals with the tools and knowledge needed to recognize, respond to and help prevent human trafficking in clinical and community settings.
Human trafficking affects an estimated 27.6 million people worldwide (U.S. Department of State). Nurses are often the first line of defense in identifying and supporting victims. By completing this certificate, participants gain actionable training to recognize signs of trafficking, respond with trauma-informed care and connect individuals to resources.
About the Certificate
This certificate is delivered through NUAHT Anti-Human Trafficking Courses, designed specifically for nursing and health care providers. The curriculum covers:
- Human Trafficking 101–104: Foundations, clinical assessment, trauma-informed care and the intersections of trafficking with health systems, the opioid epidemic, homelessness and child welfare.
- Case Studies: Real-world scenarios led by NUAHT experts to build applied skills in identifying and supporting victims.
- Targeted Health Care Response: Practical decision tools, red-flag indicators and protocols for mandatory reporting, empowering health professionals to intervene effectively.
- The program includes video modules, clinical demonstrations, survivor-centered frameworks and downloadable tools to support immediate application in health care settings.
